How Chinese Herbal Medicine works

There are conditions which require a combination of Chinese herbal medicine and other TCM treatments. The analogy of farming illustrates why. TCM treatments such as Acupuncture, Gua Sha and Cupping can be referred to as the loosening of the soil to prepare the soil for planting. Chinese herbal medicine can be referred to as water and fertilisers to the soil. When the soil is dried and depleted of nutrients, loosening it is not going to be enough. One must replenish it with water and fertilisers.

Chronic illnesses respond well to Chinese herbal medicine because it strengthens the body’s systems and promotes wellbeing.

There’re hundreds of commonly used Chinese herbs. Different herbs have different properties and can balance different parts of the body.

With the exception of a handful of them, such as ginseng, most of the Chinese herbs are best used with other herbs in formulas. There are many classic Chinese herbal formulas which have been used for thousands of years and were put together by ancient masters. The formulating of Chinese herbs is an art.

Chinese herbs are normally used in their dried form. Traditionally, the herbs are boiled with water to make the decoction. These days, they also come in the form of pre-prepared granules or small pills.

The Chinese herbs or herbal formulas available in Australia complies with TGA guidelines and are generally safe.
