"When things flow, everything functions better."
ACUPUNCTURE

The aim of acupuncture is to balance the body by unblocking energy points across its meridian system to activate the body’s healing system. Hence it can help relieve and reduce a variety of health-impacting conditions by clearing the mind, energising the body, and reducing physical pain and emotional unease without the need for medications.

Generally acupuncture is not painful; its application is often described as a ‘sensation’ of varying strengths, which is a reassuring indication that the meridian has been activated. What generally follows is instant relief.

“Every needle inserted affects the flow of energy and blood.” The acupuncture needles should, therefore, be used to direct the flow. Less is more. Winnie believes in using fewer needles to send clear, succinct signals to the body and to minimize patient discomfort.

In addition, Winnie uses very fine (Siren) Japanese needles as she has found they offer her clients the most comfort during their acupuncture treatment.

It delivers visible results while relaxing you with its gentle unblocking of the meridians on the face. It improves circulation, opens kinetic drainage to detox the whole facial area and facilitates cell regeneration. The Jade Facial is a very non-invasive, non-toxic facial lift treatment and the results have to be experienced to be believed. Learn more...

ACUTONICS®SOUND THERAPY

"Everything in life is vibration." - Albert Einstein. The subtle yet very specific vibratory energy created during Winnie’s sound therapy can bring the mind and body into a state of deep harmony and stillness. The result is an alignment of mental peace and emotional balance that activates the body’s natural healing system.

Sound Acutonics® is grounded in Acupuncture and sound healing principles. Acutonics uses a variety of sound tools, including tuning forks, to access energy pathways, including the meridian system, for harmonic attunement. The resonance generated by these sounds affects the body at a cellular level. For clients suffering from anxiety and depression, the result can be transformative. Acutonics sound therapy can also treat pain, swelling, inflammation and other chronic health conditions.

The treatment opens a new door to our relationship with our own body so we can respond to its needs. The impacts of Acutonics®can be transformative, and profound.

CHINESE HERBAL MEDICINE

Chinese herbal medicine has been used for thousands of years as it strengthens the body's systems to promote health. Different herbs apply to different parts of the body to support organ functions or to counter diseases.

There is an extensive range of tried and tested forumulas to treat a variety of health conditions, both chronic and acute. Given appropriate diagnosis, side effects are rare.

Winnie prescribes an individual herbal formula for each client, balancing many factors that she takes into account about their overall health. Herbal medicine comes in a dried form, pre-prepared granules, or small pills or liquid.

GUA SHA (SCRAPING)

‘Gua’ means scrape and ‘sha’ refers to the sandy-looking redness that appears on the skin after scraping. Gua sha involves repeated strokes over the treatment area with a smooth edge. These could be local areas of the complaint, specific acu-points or meridians.

During this painless treatment Winnie uses a specially designed smooth-edged blade-like instrument made of jade or ancient stone. Its use promotes blood circulation and removes blood stagnation. Despite the skin redness (sha) that may result from the treatment, patients typically experience immediate relief.
Gua sha can be combined with other Traditional Chinese Medicine treatments or used on its own, making it an ideal regime for people who wish to benefit from a range of treatments but prefer non-needling techniques.

CUPPING

Cupping is a Traditional Chinese Medicine treatment that stimulates the flow of blood and 'qi', the energy flowing around the body. Cupping is also known to activate the lymphatic system, promote blood circulation, release toxins and be very effective for deep tissue repair.

In preparation for the treatment a naked flame is placed inside a glass cup to create a suction effect. The pleasantly warm cups are then quickly placed on the skin and left in place for approximately ten minutes.

The reddening of the skin ( orcupping mark) left after the treatment is an indication that circulation has been brought to the surface to nourish the muscles and allow toxins to be released through the skin. These marks are usually painless and clear within three to seven days. Clients typically feel instant relief from aching muscles with this treatment.

MOXIBUSTION

Moxibustion is a Traditional Chinese Medicine heat therapy. A moxa roll made of ground mugwort herb is lit and held at a safe distance above the skin surface – close enough for the client to feel the warmth on the selected acupoint but not so close that it burns the skin.

As mentioned above under herbal treatment, yang is the life force, and insufficient yang can cause stagnation, whereas excess yang can dry up the yin water. The basic concept of moxabustion is to use heat, or the yang energy source, to stimulate the flow of blood and qi to treat both deficient and excessive conditions.

Moxibustion can be used on its own or with acupuncture and/or Chinese herbal medicine. It's a gentle process that people with a cold body find particularly soothing. It also requires the expertise of a qualified and intuitive practitioner such as Winnie Lai.
